Well seeing as I have gone over to the dark (red) side now and mostly drink red wine over any other libation, I figured I'd start posting my tasting notes here for those that might be interested. :bottle:
Tonight was the 2003 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot. This is one of the many good brands from Washington state. A tasty wine and quite a good value. I found this on sale at my local Safeway grocery for $5.99 for 750ml.
After letting the wine breathe for 1 hr: The aromas were mostly of cherries but with hints of stewed tomatoes and cooked hamburger. The flavors were mostly of tart cherries + raspberries with a bit of a dry / tannic aftertaste. The finish was moderate to long.
Pretty darn good for the price and a hell of a lot better than 3 buck Chuck.
