The question always comes up; wait a bit after receiving smokes via Fedex or what have you or fire up upon receiving. Some say waiting allows the cigar time to "rest" while others say a good cigar is a good cigar. Im sure you all have your opinions on the subject. Care to weigh in?

I usually factor in how long the cigars travelled to arrive at my doorstep. If they took a couple of days to travel a few states, were well packed, and they don't appear to be overly wet, I will often try one out as a "baseline'. Fully expecting them to improve over time.
If they've been traveling across oceans and continents, I will usually wait 2-4 weeks to sample. If they are expensive and hard to come by, I will usually stick to a month of rest.
Notice that I used the word "usually" several times - sometimes will power is hard to come by.

Generally, I'll wait about a week before I smoke mail order cigars just to let them stabilize in temperature and humidity - you never know what the travel conditions were like. As for aging your cigars it depends on the cigar and whether it is fresh or aged prior to sale and your own preferences. I typically will smoke one soon after I receive an order then put the rest away for a while - how long? Who really knows - I have cigars that go back to the early 90's. Generally they get more mild and smooth, lose some of their punch.

I am easily excited by a new arrival and burn one immediately upon arrival. However, I never form an opinion from the first one. Generally I will smoke another after about a week of rest to give me what I feel is a more true experience with the cigar.

If I'm getting singles, I usually let 'em rest at least two weeks. Don't wanna risk it right away. If I'm getting a box I don't mind burning one right away.
