I do not believe so. When we were in Nicaragua i recall them saying that they cut the flowers off most the plants as they develop. They leave the ones that are on plants that show good development, and cover them with a bag of sorts to keep cross fertilization from various crops in nearby fields.I wonder how/if flowering affects the tobacco leaf flavor. Anybody have any idea?
It doesn't. They allow the plant to grow to a certain size, then snap off the top of it, which causes it to grow out, instead of up. When they want seeds, they allow it to grow, then cover the flower with a plastic and paper bag to collect the seeds. It keep any cross pollination from happening, which is important when you have so many different strands of tobacco growing in one area.I wonder how/if flowering affects the tobacco leaf flavor.
