In the "Let's See How You Store Your Cigars" thread there are great photos of huge collections, some that would put the local B&M to shame. For the fist 10 years that I was serious about cigars I was all about trying as many different cigars as possible. Several years later I find myself not wanting to waste my time on cigars that I'm not sure of. I find my humidor has less and less variety in it as the years go by. I still enjoy trying something new but at the age of 59 I find I usually prefer to stick with a limited number of my favorites. When I see the huge collections that some people have I wonder if they are ever going to smoke them.

It's just awesome looking at some cigars in your collection and saying "today is not your day, but one day" at least for me. I'm still sitting on a Churchill sized Optus x from 12 years ago. Who knows this 4th of July weekend might be the time finally for that guy...

I used to have an extensive IPCPR list each year, went through a bunch of disappointing stuff, now its more like 3-4 new releases each year. As for what i have in storage its a fairly wide range from Nicaragua-DR-Cuba. Nothing wrong, if youve found a bunch of stuff you love and enough variety to keep you interested.

I used to try and buy a lot of new realeases and have ended up with about 1000 cigars that God willing I'll get to smoke or gift to people. Now I pretty much know what I like and only buy new realeases blindly from Crowned Heads and old favorites from either them and other companies. @JonHuber only puts out great cigars without fail every release imho.

I don't smoke a lot of cigars and have gotten really selective when I buy. With my family history, I likely have maybe 10 more years in me if I am lucky. And at the rate I smoke cigars, I doubt I will smoke what I currently have (roughly 400). My middle son enjoys good cigars, so I know the ones I don't get to will be enjoyed by him. Most of what I have should age and improve for many years to come.

I blindly buy cigars from brands I know I like. Due to my volume of smoking, for non-Cuban I will buy blindly for deals such as free samplers, or great deal. I don't know how many are in my stash but I try to add whenever possible.

As for Cubans

For a long time it was always a really hard choice to decide what to smoke since I had so many different cigars to choose from. Lately I've narrowed it down a bit and really only have things I know I like on hand and only buy a few new or limited releases from some select brands. That being said I've been starting to explore the cc world more so ....

Cant keep up with the annual releases I have enjoyed over the last 5 years ( Las Calaveras, Tat TAA, Angels Anvil......) so I have tried to limit to regular production. I have a bad case of want what cant have so why make it worse chasing one offs.

Over the last year, I've found myself starting to settle down into a few steady favorites.. but still love to try new stuff! With about 150-200 in my collection, I keep a drawer full of singles that I hit up about every 3rd smoke.. but, for the most part, I end up going with something I know, generally because I've got a certain flavor craving.. It always sucks to fire up the wrong stick for that occasion, and either suffer, or toss it!

I'll buy a few singles of the limited releases and new things I like to try but I'll do 5ers,10ers, and boxes of things I have consistently enjoyed over the years even though they'll typically be on the more expensive side. However, I only smoke once or twice a week at most so it doesn't sting as much financially.

As much as I like to try new things, since I limit how often I smoke, I rather spend the 90 minutes I spend relaxing with a cigar with something I know that won't let me down.

Most of my variety comes from you guys. I buy cheap boxes, and usually end up smoking that stuff because the stuff y'all send is way too good and I never know what to pick out when it's smoke time. I end up going with an old reliable cheapie. Lol.

I have ramped up my smoking since I moved to Ohio, so I have been buying more than I used to. As for variety I have my favs for sure, but my palette seems to change, so probably why I have a larger variety.

I have a ridiculous variety of cigars... most people have the same thing due to their "newbie" stage where they go deep into 5ers... specially when they go on sale.

Before i made the switch to Habanos, i would purchase 5ers from small batch each time they had a sale. Pre-price raises of course, i don't shop there anymore.

With all the good deals they used to offer it was a great way to try 5ers and at times even boxes. So much of the stuff was disappointing so I've accumulated a wide selection of stuff ill probably never smoke.

I too find myself with a smaller variety of smokes as time goes on and my preferences narrow, but my overall stock has slowly grown. With more solidified preferences comes a desire to have stock to age. My short-term plan (hopefully this year) is to get to 3 years' worth of stock, and long term to get to 5-7 years' worth of stock. Even though I'm smoking less variety, I want my overall number to continue to grow.
