So the question is are there any reputable cigar shops in Punta Cana? My Google Foo turned up a bunch of things stating not to purchas anything there. Any further recommendations. I would like to visit the LFD Factory so I think that is a good option. Anything else???

My father in law did the LFD tour when they were in Punta Cana last year (and still managed to bring home nothing but fake CCs... but I digress) - he loved the tour and wants to do it again.

My wife and I just traveled to Punta Cana the beginning of this month. I can tell you I was less than impressed with the price/selection I found a most places.

Reputable shops? Meh.

Fun places to experience the cigar making and aging process? For sure! Don Lucas Cigars is a fun tour to see the process and you can try some of thier cigars. They sell their own brand as well as most other common brands and a small selection of Cubans. I can tell you most cost less in the US than in the DR, but if you are willing to pay a little more for the experience go for it!

Since I'm a bit of a newbie, I can't attach a link yet, but just google search it, I would also recommend looking at the Trip Advisor reviews as well.

Most people think you can go to the Dominican or Nicaragua and smoke cheap LFD or My Father. In most cigar making countries, cigars are made in a Free Trade Zone and are only for exportation. If they are sold inside the country, there's an import tax added. So you likely won't find that many great shops. As far as I know the LFD factory is not open to the public so not sure if you could just walk up and get a tour.

Nothing but fakes from my experience, although I wish I would have brought back a fake Opus X that I saw. It was pretty comical. I would definitely bring my own cigars though.
