Trying to find Fair Market Price for S&W

Hey guys,
I've got a friend who is thinking about selling an old collect-able gun but has no idea of its value. Trying to get an idea for her about what you guys think a good asking price is.

She told me its a Smith and Wesson .357 Mag Model 65 D Series with the original wood grips.

I personally have no idea what the FMP would be but she did say its about 35 years old and has little cosmetic scratches from a holster. Other than that, everything is original.

Ideally, she should take a few pictures of the piece. What is the barrel length? It will only be collectible if it is a 3-screw or 5-screw model. It is not old enough to be a 5-screw and I doubt it is old enough to be a 3-screw. You can go to GunsAmerica.com and look up some prices there. They are pretty high so unless it is a high demand or collectible piece, I tell people to reduce the price 10 - 20%. Best guess, sight unseen: $350 - $450.

Thanx Fox, I appreciate the info bro. Its a 6" barrell and she says there are only minor cosmetic scratches from being holstered.

Unsure about the 3 screw or 5 screw but from what you say it doesn't seem to be old enough for that. Thinking that the D series might mean a D frame.

I'll see if I can get her to send me some pics of it and post 'em when I get them.

I will let you in on a little secret.........Gunbroker - It's a auction site like Ebay but not run by Pinko's. I think it's better then printed data ( Blue Book ) for prices because you can see what the market guns are selling for.... and not selling for. We look here first before doing trades on stuff....
