So I was at my local B&M and was looking over a few cigars. I was going to buy a Monte white in one of the tubes and I opened one and it was covered in white mold. Thick white puffy spots everywhere. I opened a second one, same thing, opened a third one, same thing. It even had a thin cedar strip around the cigar and still there was mold. I let the owner know.

I have never seen mold on any of their other cigars but I have never purchased a cigar in the tube from them.

Is it the poorly constructed tube that doesn't allow air flow or the humidity in the B&M?

Oh man... that's go to hurt. My guess isn't that it's a poorly constructed tube - my guess is that the tubes are not to be opened until smoked. Once opened - all the value of the tube is mute.

At least that's what I have heard.

I've opened some tubes in multiple stores and have seen the same thing plenty of times. Not always or anything, but definitely enough to know to open tubes any time I consider buying one
