UCF to ban smoking on campus

UCF is planning to ban smoking on campus beginning fall of this year.

"The rule, however, is non-punitive. Although UCF expects the numbers of smokers on campus to lessen, students will not receive citations or punishment if seen smoking on campus. Rather, the enforcement of the ban will be the responsibility of students and faculty"

"Cancer prevention and health concerns are the reasons for the legislation. Deichen said that nonsmokers are more inclined to pick up the habit after observing smoking behavior. He hopes that a smoke-free UCF will help guard nonsmokers from secondhand smoke."

"After receiving a $123,000 grant to help start marketing the "Catch Your Breath" campaign, the university has moved forward and the ban is expected to begin Aug. 20."

Doesn't work.. The college I attend has a "smoke free campus" as of a couple semesters ago... People still walk around smoking freely!

I wonder if you can still get away with smoking in your dorm like I used to. Nothing a wet towel at the bottom of the door, some dryer sheets inside of a paper towel cardboard tube and some incence didn't take care of for me. Wait, am I talking about the same thing.......

Our campus is built on top of a large hill and it's a trek and a half to get to class so there are a lot less smokers than any other college I have been to. I still smoke a cig walking in below freezing temperatures with snow on the ground to class sometimes but its a lot more of an effort to walk so I generally dont. I do regularly smoke cigars on the fraternity roof during the summer though.

haha I know tons of people who use that trick in the dorms still. But instead of intense, whole dorm halls wreak of Fabreez.
