Hey guys! Smoked a maduro earlier that kept going out. Even with one puff a min. Also would not burn evenly. Any idea what could be causing this?

Meh, could be. I'm 62% for cc's and 65% for nc's. Do you have more of this stick on hand? Try dry boxing it for a day or 2. If that fixes it, it was too wet. If it doesn't, blame the cigar blend!

Cc's? Nc's? Sorry noob here. And yes i have about 16 of em left. I used humicare jars, so if the sticks turn out to actually be too wet should i remove beads to drop RH?

I'm a big Maduro fan and they tend to be a bit harder to keep lit. I normally take shallower puffs more often. Had a Tatuaje TAA 2016 6.25x50 this morning and it took me 2 hrs and 15 minutes to finish it so I'm not smoking too fast.

Try drawing on it more often. Do a purge occasionally and then a rapid purge, pull cycle a couple of times if it starts to go out to heat up the cherry.

That could be due to anything, there again maduros tend to be thicker, denser leaf so no telling. Often they correct themselves. I try to keep changing the position of the cigar in my hand, or in the ash tray, kind of spin it occasionally so one side isn't always down. Especially when smoking a box pressed cigar you tend to keep them in one orientation because you're limited on how the cigar fits in your mouth. You can try blowing on the un-burnt wrapper to speed it's burn but to be honest I normally just do a quick touch-up with the lighter.

I dry box my cigars with 60% bovedas for a week or so before smoking. I think that was a good suggestion from Hopduro

Too wet is likely cause. How long in your humidor? I keep my non Cubans around 65% & usually give them at least 4 months in the humidor before trying one. When smoking them sooner than that, the results have almost always been less than satisfying for me.

Someone mentioned something to me recently about how smoking cigars after the sun goes down does something that makes them burn shitty. Drop in air pressure or humidity or some such mysterious forced of nature. I don't remember the science of it, but I can smoke a cigar during the day from my 65% wino and they burn flawlessly, but at night I have to puff them like crazy to keep them from going out and relight multiple times. Cigars are weird. I just try to relax, lower my expectations (meaning it's OK if I have to baby sit the burn) and enjoy.

Haha thats wild, never heard that. I keep my humidor at 68-70% RH at 67° i just recently moved my two himidors to the basement because they were too hot sitting upstairs. Should i drop my RH since the temp has dropped? Before my temp would be 74-75°f

How would you drop your RH? In my experience when the temp goes down the RH goes down. Don't remember what the scientists say about the correlation.

Well i use the humicare jars. Was thinking removing some of the beads will drop the humidy level. Just not sure if my humidity is too high 68-70% for the 67°F

Your beads should be set to a specific Rh If they are not saturated or dried out he amount of beads is only important for how much moisture they can provide or absorb i.e. how many cigars and how large a humidor they can service. 68% beads should hold at 68% plus or minus a bit. If they are not saturated or dried out.

If you are at 68 or so in your humidor that isn't the problem. The problem is 68% may be to high to smoke the cigars you want to smoke. What is the humidity in your house. If it is below 68% you can start dry boxing your cigars by laying them on a table like Nacho said. If you want more control buy a couple of Bovedas in the Rh you want and place them in tupperware, glass jar, traveldore, with your cigars for a couple of days. I like my cigars around 60% hence the 60% Bovedas. But many people smoke anywhere in the range of 58% to 72% it depends on so many factors and personal preference.

Ok so what youre saying is its ok to keep my humidor at 68% but i shouldnt smoke em at that %. Let em dry out for a day or so, then smoke? Or put em in a box at 65% to dry. Right?

Would it be ok to buy 65% bovedas for my box? Use those instead of the beads? I had been thinking about that but wasn't sure if that was the right move or not
