So what software should I get to clean unwanted files or trojans off of my pc? What works best for you guys?

Depends on the trojans...

I use a combo of AdAware SE, Spybot S & D, and hijack this...
today over at Giveaway of the Day they have Smartpc http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/

Tha/v software I use is Avira http://www.free-av.com

These work for me, but sometimes you have to google a specific trojan to get extra assistance...

I use the free programs and they work fine for me. Like others, I have AdAware and Spybot installed for spyware / malware and I installed Avast for viruses.

I've always just renewed the Norton software I got with the computer. I have never had a problem.

I've used CCleaner on my PCs at work and at home. It works well and is quite fast.

Kevin, I use Spy Sweeper for spyware removal and protection along with NOD32 for anti-virus. Over the years I found Norton to be a resource hog that dramatically slowed PC operations. NOD32 is little known among the general population, but very well known among us techies. Neither of the above are free products and well worth the money. I believe both are available now in trial versions. Spybot and Ad-Aware are decent products, but they do not have the capabilities of products like Spy Sweeper. Webroot, makers of Spy Sweeper, also offer a very nice cleanup utility Internet files, cookies, temporary files, etc., called Window Washer.

As a side note, a product like Max Registry Cleaner is very good at cleaning registries and increasing performance. For defraging, use a product like JKDefrag.

I use Norton for viruses and Windows Defender for spyware and the two of them get the job done!
