We're not the first to think of it, but we're one of the first to ban it.
If you've gotten a passport in the past year, it's had an RFID chip in it.

Of course accidents do happen, sometimes if you stand too close to a microwave while holding your passport and you accidentally drop it in and accidentally push 5 seconds on high and accidentally render the chip inoperable.
Also, sometimes I carry my passport with me when I'm hammering nails. I'm pretty clumsy and I've dropped my hammer on it a few times.
Accidents happen.

 How clumsy can you be?

"proposing bills that would place a temporary ban on RFIDs in driver's licenses" - Are they in your DL now? And hell, why make it temporary? Too much gov't there.

You can thank the federal REALID act.
Federally mandated drivers license legislation.
What business the federal govt has in regulating state ids I have no idea.
They claim it's to standardize ids for airline travel. Sounds like a backdoor to a national ID to me.:nono:

The REALID act doesn't require RFID but allows for their use. This bill will stop it from using RFID in CA licenses. It's still in the proposal phase now.
