I've seen this cigar discussed....and often times, been one of the ones singing its praises, but didn't see a thread title of it's own anywhere.

Curious if anyone knows when they started coming w/ cello and the platinum ribbon at the foot??

Just scored a box of Chivas and Finos that were sans cello and ribbon....and curious as to the age on them. No box codes/dates anywhere on either box.

Either way, smoked a Chiva the other night that did not suck at all!!! :smokingbo

You are right my friend, if my memory serves me they did not have cello on them when they were first released, ribbon yes, cello no.

well.....they were'nt "sealed" boxes Larry, but they were both full boxes. I can't imagine the B&M taking the ribbon of BOTH boxes if that's the way they came.

Perhaps Danilo might know, seeing as he was the one that gave me the referral.

Thanks again Danilo, much appreciated bro!

I assume you'd be able to tell the difference between that and the Oro (I wouldn't yet).
Pretty easy Nate......Oro, or gold in spanish, has gold trim as the band border with no ribbon at the foot...

The Platino, or platinum in spanish, has a silver trim band border, and a silver (platinum) ribbon at the foot.

Yup...that's how I remember em' too. I suppose if any shop was going to get a "1st run" of these, Florida would be the spot....which is where these came from.

This review here shows the stick sans cello & ribbon and is from March 09....(who knows how long he had it though or where it came from)...

it's also possible he took the ribbon off before taking the photographs for the review.

Yeah, I thought about that too........but it seems a little faux paux when doin' a cigar review don't you think??....especially when you have a "before" picture.

I dunno......not a big deal if I don't know the exact time frame whatsoever. Just knowing they were pre-ribbon I guess in and of itself means they have a good amount of game on em'. Especially seeing as I enjoyed the first Chiva I smoked so much!! ;).

word ... not very familiar with Viaje myself, only smoked one ... that's why I'm looking forward to this split with Matt :) Of course, I need to wait 2 months before I'm in-country to get them, but it's all good.

Sounds to me like you made a great score and got some aged smokes to me! If they smoke well and taste like Viaje to you, then I'd say that puts the issue to rest. Though if it were me, I'd email Viaje just to ask, but I'm super curious.

Here's the response I received directly from Viaje....

"There were a few non sequential runs that didn't have the ribbon."

I had no idea you were a forum member Gabby....

I suppose I could've just called you and asked, but this way was much more fun!!...LOL!

Thanks again for the cigars my friend.......not to mention the help in identifying the amount of age on em'!! :tiphat:

I think you did well. New or Old..either way it's an outstanding cigar.
True that ciggy!!

And it didn't hurt that they were 40% off retail!!! (shameless plug for Gabby's shop perhaps, but a great opportunity for others to pick these up for a try at a great price if you haven't yet )
