Hey Guys/Gals -

I just finished the permanent shelving solution for my new Vinotemp 12 bottle. Looks like a lot of us picked up one of these babies... I'd love to see what everyone else did with theirs! :thinkidea

Before this outfit was completed, I was just using the metal racks, a trimmed down wine cork in the drain, and two pantyhose bags with 4oz of beads each. That rigged-up situation held rock solid at 67 degrees and 70% RH (70% Knockoff beads) but it felt like a wine fridge with cigars in it... now there is no doubt what the purpose of this cooler is!

Here is a pic of the freestanding unit: Freestanding

Parts List:

  • Two el cheapo white plastic cutting boards (you could use Spanish Cedar, Plexiglass, or lot's of other things... I liked the idea of it being non porous and food safe... should last the long haul)
  • 5 Feet of 1/4 inch Stainless threaded rod (I used stainless for all of the hardware... just in case)
  • 16 Stainless Washers
  • 16 Stainless Nuts
  • 5 Feet of 1/4 inch inside diameter clear tubing (to cover the exposed threaded rod... no scuffee my boxee)
  • end caps of your choosing for the threaded rod (decoration)
  • Rubber Stopper for drain (a proper stopper)

All-in only about $30 worth of materials for the rack!

You'll also need some beads and a couple of Oust fans. (My Beads came from Heartfelt and my Oust fans from BigLots.)
For my bead storage, I used some rubber end caps and some plastic crafter's canvas.

Here's a couple of links to the "undercarriage" :

Guts #1 and Guts #2

I riveted the bottoms of the 2 Oust fans together so they were one stable unit. This was just a way for me to keep them tidy looking.

So here's the unit inside the Fridge: Inside Empty

And a shot of it with my 'gars loaded:Current Stash

Now all I need is some proper trays and I'll be all set. For now, i have some decent cedar cigar boxes in use as trays, and several blocks of spanish cedar placed about the cooler... I am planning on shaping some slats of cedar and adhering them to the walls of the unit as aromatic decoration... updated pics will come after I have found the time to tackle that part of the project.

It's been 24 hours since I got everything installed and for those of you wondering, the RH is now down to 65% and the temp still at 67 degrees... perfect.

Time to go enjoy a smoke!

Mine is 6 bottle. (Dorm rooms suck!)

(Do not keep it at 73%)

Made by another user, on another forum. (Chasden) I think it was $40-50 bucks shipped. Comes with a glass top on each shelf.
