Does anyone have any experience with these, which supposedly reduce calcium deposits and clogging from hard water? I had understood them to be total BS until a plumber told me that he has them in his house and recommends them and that he's found them to do a great job.

I can see magnets removing iron particles from your water ... but calcium or other water soluble minerals? I call BS. :stickbeat
Unless of course your plumber has a friend who knows someone who's uncle used to work in Castro's recently decommissioned atomic supercollider ... and he can smuggle out some of the powerful magnets they allow employees to take home for their own use.
