So the wife and I head downstairs to watch some TV last night at around 9:30, and a few minutes after sitting down, I realize my socks got wet. I had no idea how they'd be wet...spilled glass of water or my dog doing something he hasn't done in YEARS or... wait a sec. Panic time.
Our water main shutoff is not to far from where we are sitting, in a crawl-space type area on the other side of the wall. Sure enough...it's got a slow leak! The water had finally built up enough that it seeped under/through the wall into the carpeting and padding in the next room. Fortunately, the leak was after the water main shut off, so we were able to stop the leak last night. A plumber is here now replacing the water meter horn (and a few other things since it'll take him less than his one hour minimum charge).
I'm thankful we caught when we did (the water seems to have gotten about a quarter of the way across the room). However, I'm worried we'll have to pull out the carpet and padding and therefore have an even bigger expense. Can the water be wet-vac'd out and fans used without having to rip everything up? How much water is too much? How do you make that call?
:closedmou :angryteet
I think I'll be posting a sale or two and an auction soon to help cover the cost of this freakin' water damage.
