Well, public school started back up today

My eldest daughter started the fifth grade today. Whatever happened to the good old days when summer lasted through the end of August, and school started back up the day after labor day? I really hope that our country does not shift to school lasting the whole year with small, intermittent breaks like they do in other parts of the world.

here in NY, the school year starts the week after labor day, and lasts till the last week of june. well, classes are through the 1st week, but tests last for the next 2 weeks or so.
i always thought that even that was far to long. :glassesgr

It's just Florida PG. And I HATE the start of the school year. All it does for me is bring a F-load of traffic onto the roads. It will literally take me an extra 10-15 minutes to get to work most days now. And my commute should only be in the 15-20 minute range.

Do you have to drive through downtown to get to work? Have you heard talk of a beltway being considered? Not sure I like that idea, malfunction junction is still malfunction junction after all that construction.

They already do that in CA. When I was in elementary school we had what was called the "track system." It was because the schools were overpopulated but there was no funding to build another elementary school. So there was A-D tracks. Between 2nd and 5th grades I was an A-track student, and then I moved to another school and back again in 6th grade. I came back a D-track student and we had to attend just about the entire summer.

Its an after Labor Day start for the kids here in Boston Mass. Then they go till the end of June.

Yea it's early but you guys that start after labor day still go the same amount of time because ya'll get out later. And school in MS starts Friday and they will get out at the end of May.

Pretty early start. Around here it is right after Labor day

My kids start on the 25th. They were starting earlier a few years ago and then the state legislature passed a law not allowing school to start before the 24th and it has to end by early June. Basically they eliminated many of the teacher workdays so the school year ends at the same time, but starts later.
