Just to make a long story short, sometime in the near future I'm looking at blood transfusions, chemo and a bone marrow transplant.

But "It's not cancer" according to the doctor.

It's going to be a fun year!!

First good luck with your medical treatment, but this treatment plan sounds like a Cancer treatment plan?

Good luck with everything brother, I'll keep you in my prayers. I obviously don't know your diagnosis or where you are located but look into antineoplastin therapy. Its an amazing alternative to chemo that's had extremely promising results without the devastating side-effects. There is actually a documentary on it if you are interested that's named after the doctor (Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski). The doc is called Burzynski. The therapy was originally only available in Texas but there are a few clinics located in other states. Do some research with respect to what you have and see if it's a viable option. And don't just trust your own doctor on it if he shit's on the idea, unless it's for certain not applicable for your case (i.e., get a second opinion or contact Dr. Burzynski's clinic directly and speak with them). Many physicians have disregarded it and its been the first and only treatment to cure many incurable brain cancers in children and adults, as well as many others. If you need any research studies on it or have any questions feel free to contact me.

I know, and I asked the doctor point blank and he said no. His quote was "the engine that makes my bone marrow is broken". The kicker is that in everything but this I'm healthy. All the other blood markers that point to it being cancer are normal. I'll find out more this Friday.

I'm in NC.

So is this more autoimmune related or they haven't told you? If it's myelodysplasia (myelodysplatic syndrome), aplastic anemia or something along those lines I would definitely get a second opinion prior to proceeding with a chemo regimen only because bone marrow suppression is a common side-effect to the drugs used.

Well it sound out like some sort of blood disease from your explaination. I know as I worked many moons ago at a place called City of Hope - National Medical Center in Duarte CA. We were pioneers back then in bone marrow transplants. That was the late 1970.

BMT have come a long way, are more successful, and have better outcomes. I only hope you are seeing a hemotoligist at some large medical center in your home state.

As with most serious medical condition you want the best team available as your doctors.

Good luck, and PM me if you have any question, I maybe have some ideas.

myelodysplasia- I think that's what he said but I'm not sure. I wasn't taking notes. He did mention a second opinion and we will discuss that Friday.

Yes, I'm seeing a Hematologist at one of the largest cancer centers in the area. I know someone that's a researcher at the group who has been studying this type of illness and she said he's one of the best in NC.

Yep that is it I'm pretty sure. This has been developing since 2010 but in the last year has accelerated, only recently affecting the white blood cells. Interesting they say BMT's aren't recommended. He is kind of staring the slow approack Twice a week blood tests until it reaches a stage when I'll get a transfusion. I don't think he is rushing into the BMT.
