Had a 4.7 Quake centered near Truckee in the Sierra Nevadas last night that we felt in Sacramento. There was a 4.0 in Frisco last week. I wonder if we are building up to something big. It has been some time since our last big one. Hopefully we just stay with these small ones. They are nice, rock you to sleep.

Spatially dispersed, small quakes are actually helping to reduce the magnitude of the next "big one." That being said, it has been some time since our last "big one" so who knows really how big it will be?

This map from USGS looks pretty normal to me.

It can also be a sign of pressure building on the plates. Some big earthquakes are preceded by small ones before releasing all of the stress put on them.

We had a 4. something about a month ago here in Monterey County in the middle of the night but I feel quakes all the time. I guess I'm desensitized since it's pretty commonplace.

Wouldn’t want to be there when the "Big One" hits. I still get uneasy looking at pictures/videos from that 1989 World Series quake.

The coastal plate is rising above the ocean plate so I think we are safe from falling in the ocean for now.
I'm pretty sure it is mostly a lateral fault... meaning that in a few thousand years San Diego (which is on the pacific plate) will be closer to Sacramento.

my only problem with the earthquakes was that for the second one that day I was in the bathtub, TRYING to enjoy a relaxing bath. That so didn't happen...oh and I might have thought I was hallucinating over the third one in that twenty four hour period. Won't say why heh heh heh
