So I was just making a comment in another thread, and it occurred to me that lately I've been getting a chalky sort of flavor in many of my cheap maduros that makes me pitch the stick. In fact, several of the sticks I once enjoyed, I no longer due because of this particular quality.

So far, it's been very prevalent in every one of the following sticks:
-Torano 50th
-RP Edge maduro
-5 Vegas AAA
-and overwhelmingly in the 5 Vegas Gold Maduro.

I hadn't smoked any of these in over a year, and when I got gifted one or pulled one from my stash, I couldn't keep smoking it.

All of these sticks I liked ok when I was new to maduros, but now I can't stand them because of whatever that chalky essence is. Is it dye? Is it a particular leaf? Anyone know what I'm talking about here?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I can't stand the cheep stuff anymore and it pisses me off because my taste buds have been spoiled over the years with quality cigars. Thus $$$$

I think you have just moved beyond those particular cigars. Perhaps it was always there and your pallet was not where it is now. I love maduroes...but there are some that I smoked when I was first starting out that I no longer smoke because of the flavour profile. Never had a chalky flavor before, but then again I never ate chalk! :barf:

Have to echo the others that your tastes have probably changed. what RH do you store your cigars? I know for me when i first started i liked the sticks at 70% then started to sour on them but when i dry boxed and got em down to 65-66% i enjoyed them again albiet not the same level as before.
