****UPDATE*******************************************************************

Well, the surgery is done and over with, seems to be completely successful. The doctors were able to remove all of the malignant cells, and were able to reattach the bottom part of the lobe...It is very interesting how they did the surgery. The removed a pice shaped wedge of the earlob, and then brought up the bottom part, and sewed it back to the top half, closing the gap where the cells were removed. They will ananlyze what the removed to determine if any further action is necessary, but it seems that everything was caught soon enough, and fixed soon enough, so my dad should be A-OK. They will continue to monitor the situation on a monthly basis. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Brother-In -Law had a number of skin cancers and the doc gave him a cream that he applied daily. Really expensive stuff and he said it burned a bit but totally did the job. All gone. Way cool.

My dad has had some skin cancer simply because he got too much sun on the farm when he was younger. The doctor had to numb the spots and then dig the infected area out. So far he hasn't had any more problems.

My dad is having an outpatient surgery on Wednesday, to remove a malignant growth...The docs are pretty confident that it is an isolated growth, but an ultrasound on Tuesday will ensure that it hasn't hit the nodes and traveled..Not sure what to think/feel at this point, I guess we just wait and see...I've put in for a pass to get down to see him for his surgery, so I'll know more afterwards I suppse...

My mother has had basal cell carcinoma for at least 40 years. It is painful and she has to endure regular exams from the dermatologist. She has to have them removed about twice a year. It isn't pleasant but she has other problems that will probably do her in first.

Prayers to your Dad Drew. Cancer is some scary shit no matter how much they tell you that they caught it early. Keep us updated and know we'll be thinking about you and your family.

Prayers to your Dad, Drew...medicine has come a long way.

My Mom died of malinoma in 1983 at the age of 45. Her Brother got the same mole in the same place on his back a few years later...and is still around at age 71. The strides in dealing with it have been many.

My Dad has had several growths removed from his forehead over the years. He is kickin' at 69.

I had several bad sunburns in my teens, blistering more than once. I'm a prime candidate, but so far, so good....scary, because I'm now about 1 year younger than my Mom was when she passed away.

Prayers to you, Drew.
I grew up in Miami and started having little cancers at around 30. Most have been frozen off, but I've had to have them surgically removed on two occasions. It's a little scary, but once you've tuned into it, you get checked often. Every 6 months for me (and every time we find new ones). I'm not worried because with any cancer, the earlier you find it, the greater the chance for a complete recovery.

He can comment on that experience.

Two of my aunts have had spots removed from their shoulders and back because of too much sun tanning when they were younger.

I had a basal cell removed from my left cheek area just in front of my ear. Doc got it all and there is very little scar. Just be sure to follow ALL care instructions. I had an area the size of a quarter and about 3 nickels deep in my cheek for about 2 weeks untill the results came back from the Lab that it was all removed. Had to keep putting Polysporin (antibiotic) in it till the Dr. sewed it up. Still as handsome as ever though. No more found. I may still have pics. Hoping for the best outcome for your Dad.
