What causes some cigars to turn on the saliva spigots?

EP Carillo Inch just generates so much moisture in my mouth that it can be difficult to smoke especially in such a large ring gauge. Other will give me a cotton or dry mouth. Any idea why the differences? Is it a personal affliction or have others had the same experience?

Interesting...definitely notice it more on humid days...Think it really has nothing to do with the tobacco itself, but the conditions you're smoking in. Dry winter days generally don't have an issue as much. but that's just me.

I've never noticed a particular cigar that makes me salivate more than another. However, I do find that when I smoke a cigar or a pipe, I just salivate a lot. Part of the reason I like smoking outside is that I can just spit whenever and wherever. At the B&M, I have to be sure no one sees me spit on the floor. :bag:

Interesting, but I don't smoke the Inch only on humid days. The net says chewing triggers the flow of saliva so maybe the size of the cigar does have an effect.

B Dub Island Jim and I had that conversation when he visited Biloxi for an event. He thought it was crude to spit when smoking a cigar. I kind of looked at him and said it's only crude if you spit on the carpet!

haha - truth be told, I try not to spit at all if anyone is around. Regardless of what others think, it is gross if you spit and the wind takes it to your beard and you didn't know. Don't want to be that guy.

And, for the record, I would never spit inside - especially in a beloved B&M.

yeah i would imagine it is the same thing as putting a cracker lemon juice or pickle juice in your mouth. it's to prevent you from choking. natural body response. but then again there are those cigars that give you cotton chops too.

I think the saliva reservoir is a symptom known as Mush Mouth. I think the only known help is either tongue removal, frontal lobotomy or a drool cup. Sorry bro.
