Aside from not smoking indoors, what do you do to keep your house from smelling like smoke? I'm sure some of you don't mind the smell of day old cigar smoke but those who do, what tricks/techniques do you employ to keep your house from smelling like an ashtray?

I rarely do but sometimes will smoke in the house if it's cold/wet/nasty outside and I know I'll be vacuuming within a day or two. When I vacuum I use carpet deodorizer from Glade. It smells up the whole house and seems to absorb the stale smoke odors pretty well. I also find that if I fry something greasy like sausage or bacon it seems to overpower it. I love this old house and don't really ever want to move but if I do I'll definitely make sure the new place has a room that I can sort of seal off and set up with ventilation for a smoking room.

I have a 6 gal. room humidifier that I dump in a half a bottle of fabreeze into each tank. You can put baking soda in some candle holders too, but I don't go that far...I have 3 kids running around the house all the time. I used to do the baking soda thing when I was 20. My roomates were heavy duty pot heads and spilled bong water all the time.

Besides ventillation, I use a Lampe Berger that does a pretty good job of taking bad smells out of the air and replacing them with other scents.

I don't smoke cigars in the house unless I sit by a window with a fan in it blowing out. I have smoked my pipe though, many times. The pipe smells so much better that it doesn't leave a stale smell like a cigar does and the family doesn't mind it at all.

I use a csonka smoke eater I got on cigarbid.com.
I smoke at least one cigar every evening and in the morning there is barely a trace of smell, by afternoon nothing. I think if I had gotten a bigger unit the smell would not even last until morning.

Many cigar shops sell items like the Lampe Berger or another brand that essentially does the same thing. Lampe Berger uses an alcohol base which kills the odor and any bacteria in the air. Take a look, well worth it.

I smoke in my basement only. I don't care too much if it smells. I keep the window open and light a smoker's candle. Doesn't work the best but it helps.

Another tip ....

after you are finished smoking, spray "Fabreeze" around.
And clean out the ash tray right away, outside the house.

This thread is similar to those hippies who were trying to hide it from their parents.
