The band that is beside the cigar is one of the new Montecristo bands. Was that on that mangy looking cigar? If so, that's not a 40 year old cigar. What's the story behind this cigar? Was it a gift from someone? Did someone sell it to you? Was it found laying in a ditch somewhere?

The cigar looks as old as I am (and in slightly better shape). Definately not the original band.

Let us know how it smokes!:stretchgr

A couple things that woud help us is a close up picture of the cap so we can see it's construction, and the best measurements of it you can get.

Looks like there's a lot of water damage to the cigar. I have a couple of cigars from 1926 and neither is that bad!

Yeah, this stick was gifted by an associate of mine. Said it's a cigar from the time before the Kennedy assassination. I know the gar isn't in the best shape and really don't know if it's a smoke able stick, really just wanted opinions. Don't think I'm going to smoke it though.

I'm not sure why you guys are so quick to label the cigar fake just from those pics. The band does not appear to me to be a conclusive fake either. What everyone will agree on is that it's definitely in bad shape.

Ya I am not sure if it is fake, but certainly it is damaged.

Shane, I think some of the guys were under the impression that they were using different bands on the MCs 40 yrs ago. Is that not right? Was the other an alternate band?

The fleur-de-lis doesn't look right for the standard band up to 2003. Looks more like the fleur-de-lis from 2003 up. If the band has embossing of the circles and the fleur-de-lis it's should be from 2006 to present.

Nope, just saying from the pics there are too many variables such as lighting, pic quality, flash, etc. Either way, it's not conclusive from that pic. Carry on....

A forty year old Monte band would look similar to today's band with the already noted changes. Monte has had that basic brown and white band since the 40s.

Shane, I'm not labeling it a fake from the photo, I would label it a fake if the band that is pictured was on the cigar, although that question still hasn't been answered. You are correct, one can't really tell much from this picture other than it is a badly damaged cigar. It would help if we had proper dimensions and closer shots of the cigar. The band may very well be legit but it, as you well know, doesn't belong on a cigar that is supposedly 40 years old. If the band was on the cigar and passed off as a 40 year old cigar, something smells.
