What does the "D" signify in Partagas Series D?

In the Partagas Series D No. 4, what does the "D" signify? Does it designate the year it was manufactured or is it the 4th version of this blend (A, B, C coming before this one)?

I'm assuming #4 is Partagas' size for robusto?

Partagas uses letters and numbers to describe some of them in length and ring gauge. For instance PSD4 stands for Partagas Series ring guage (letter) and lenth (number). I could only find a couple old examples here, someone with an MRN should be able to post the others:

D = 50 ring guage, 4 = the length 4 7/8" long. this would be a robust size stick.

P = 52 ring guage, 2 = 6 1/8 (I think is length) pyramid size stick

it seems habanos ignored the dimensions from that chart with the release of the Serie D no. 3 then went back to it for the Serie C no. 1, Serie D no. 2, and Serie D no. 1, and now the recent releases of the Serie P. no. 1 and the Serie E no. 2 also do not work with the original chart.:dunno:
