I've got 1500ct humidor that i've had for a few months now. I have been using the cigar oasis humidifier and it is basically junk. What has everyone on here who has a large cabinet style humidor used for humidification? I have about 400 cigars in the humidor right now and i am sure the 1500ct description is exaggerated. Any advice?

400 cigars in a large cabinet? Sounds like you have too much air space in there. Cigar Oasis are generally pretty good. Our sponsor Cigar Solutions has humidifiers or you can PM Ron, he is the owner. If you only have 400 cigars, what is the square footage you require to keep the RH good? For 400 cigars 1 lb of cigar bead would be more than enough to keep them good depending on the size of the cabinet. Heartfelt industries also a sponsor has those.

Lots of guys use beads in their coolers/vinotems (and the like). They'd probably work well in your case too :dunno:. The Storage forum would probably be a better place to ask this.

I would have to say about 10-11 cubic feet. Dimensions (Outside): 24”W x 26”D x 30”H. I am working on getting more cigars in it but low budget keeps me from doing that quickly. The top drawer is completely full of individuals and then the bottom part probably has 10 boxes or so in it.

Try getting empty cedar slide lid boxes (not the dress boxes) to take up more space. Helps regulate the RH and prevents bounce when you open the door a lot.

I hope your Oasis is on the bottom and is in good working order? The hygro is calibrated? Remember RH rises, not falls. ANY of the Oasis models are more than adequate for that size cabinet. Not sure why your Oasis is "junk".

Hope this helps or that our sponsors can get you something more to your liking. Happy smoking.

I do have it on the bottom of the humidor. And correction it is not the oasis brand it is the hydra sm. I have calibrated it and checked against another digital hygrometer that i know is accurate. The fan in mine is barely working right now and it will make the loud beeping sound at least three times a day to signal it needs distilled water but when i check it, it has plenty of water. I think i am going to look into the beads. I usually only open the humidor twice a day.

yeah, I have that same Hydra. Sounds like your is messed up. You will need a bigger one anyway, too much space and too much empty space right now.

I just got a hydra that did the same thing. Unplug it for a few minutes, and plug it back in. Also be sure the target humidity is set around 67%. The hydra should not be used in oder to season a humidor that big. If the box was not seasoned, you need to get a bowl of water and set it in there for a week or so. If not seasoned, the wood is just soaking up everything the hydra is doing. Once the wood is seasoned, and a few empty boxes, it will recover much faster and the hydra won't have to work so hard

1 way to check if it was seasoned, is to unplg the hydra with out opening the door. if your other hygro shows a drop in RH then you need to reseason.

If you really want to ditch the hydra a pound and a half to 2 pounds of heartfelt beads should get the job done for you.

I use an oasis xl and a pound of beads with two oust fans. Works great. You've got to fill the empty space though for it to be really stable.

Thanks for all the good tips guys. I am going to definitely try the beads and filling up the empty spaces with empty cedar boxes.
