Feel free to tell us what in this life is important to you..issues, ideas, causes, places, your work....whatever.
I think gaining a greater understanding and compassion for my fellow humans is probably almost at the top for me. I have done this by educating myself, traveling to other countries, and trying to understand and embrace my own culture, and give someone of another culture the same respect that I'd expect given to me and mine.
I include with this people from my own country who have different backgrounds and experiences as well. For example, I have never fired a gun and killed an animal, so I don't pretend to know what that is like. It's a personal choice, I have opinions about game hunting, but I won't tell you that your experience is invalid, null and void, or offensive to me and therefore you have no right to do it. I have not had to go into the woods and shoot my dinner. I"ve been lucky to have always had enough food to eat.
I have my opinions on religion and spirituality, but would never tell a person that my beliefs are superior or more correct, moral or better than his/hers. I try tokeep my private thoughts to myself.
Part of this too is opening my mind and allowing others to express their thoughts and opinions and trying to understand where they are coming from, given their unique experiences and history.
I've been told that I need to put myself first, so I guess that's up there, taking care of me, mind, body and spirit.
I'm interested in the political situation in THIS country...One of the things this nation was founded on was the notion of self-determination. What happens in other countries is their affair, except of course if it has some direct impact on something related to the daily lives and security of Americans. Or if we as a nation or or policies, have had some sort of effect on the current situation...ie: the over-throw of the elected head of the Iranian democracy in the 1950's that led to the installation of the Shah, and ultimately, the isalmic revolution of the late 1970's and the hostage crisis etc...Or the American backed overthrow and assasination of the Chilean President Allende in 1973 that put the fascist dictator Pinochet in power.
And of course, I think that we as a nation should provide humanitarian aid when necessary(Tsunami, Pakistan earthquake, African famines)when it is appropriate and the right thing to do..I think as the world's wealthiest nation, we have a responsiblity that comes with that privilege. Just as we have a responibility to the planet:ie Global warming.
I think being a good neighbor and citizen is important. I extend, whenever I can, a helping hand to an out-reached one...
Now it's your turn and feel free to add, modify, as things come up.
