Since I will be working from about 5 AM to 6 PM on Christmas, we are trying to decide when to celebrate Christmas. When should we do it? By the way, my wife's baking a cake for Jesus! Any ideas as to how to fit 2009 candles on a cake? Maybe I should go with the numbers....

I voted for the evening of Christmas Day. The anticipation of celebrating it after work vs having to go to work after celebrating it on the Eve would work for me.

Do you work the day after?

Brian,

from knowing about you, I take it you mean, "celebrate Christmas" as celebrating the birth of Christ. Not that the actual day is important but the remembrance, as we know Christ was born sometime in April or so. I would do it that night we you get home. That is great your lovely wife is making a cake, we have done that. We have went with just a candle as it was more for the kids. Also, it is estimated that Jesus was born between 7 and 4 BCE, which would make him between 2,013 and 2,016 years old this year (2009).

My wife said she'd like to do it Christmas evening as well, I'm not sure she can handle the anticipation of waiting to open the gifts! We may do the birthday cake Christmas Eve. I am off Saturday and Sunday after Christmas so that will be good! Hopefully the following week we will close on our home! God is blessing us! And Plush, you are correct, it's cool that you notice that!

Good question was asked...if you don't work the day after, I would celebrate in Christmas night when you got home.

As for us, we find that the night before a long work day its always tougher to fully relax, so when we've been in this situation, we celebrate on either the evening of Christmas day or even the next day.

5 AM to 6 PM...That is a brutal schedule. Celebrate some on Christmas eve and Christmas day that way you can pace it.

Well...from someone who has worked 21 shift for the last 14 yrs prior to feb this (plant closed) I have only had 1 christmas day off...when the kids were younger and I was on dayshift we would get them up before I left for work and do the pkg's and whatnot...midnites they would wait patiently till I got home from work lol...when I was in the army, me and the 1st wife just celebrated when I got home, be it from the woods...a jump...or what have ya...as my daughter was an infant so she didnt quite grasp it...Yes the wife bitched and complained if I was out on an ftx but what can ya do..."Well Sir...I really dont feel like jumping today on acct of it being christmas and all"...Sgt. Travaille would have been Pfc. Travaille in no time lol...So that being said...I can relate and feel your pain...but you are a soldier and that trumps all...thanks for your service...On a side note...what do ya do?...Hope all is well with you and yours...len

X-mas eve here, though good arguements have been made for the eveing of X-mas day. If you do wait until the 25th I would let the kids open a few presents on the 24th before bed, since they have to wait until after dark on the 25th. Remeber everyone one your street was out playing with new toys, bikes etc by noon. Your kids will be waiting al day and into the evening before they can show off thier new digs.

I voted Christmas evening. Stinks you have to work it but it will make everyone else have to wait as well.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
