Rats, it escaped before my wife could get the camera. It was a big buzzing flying beetle. Flew around banging and veering like a hummingbird with bad navigation.

Nature freaks out.

:rofl: Well I was asleep when you posted that. Was probably what are commonly called June bugs. They belong to the family Scarabaeidae which also includes Dung Beetles (some of my favorites!) and Scarab Beetles (from whence the family name comes). While not the largest beetles, they do get big enough to alarm some people and can certainly make a painful impression during an ungraceful landing on your head. They also make quite the noise while flying and sound bigger than they are. A couple of weeks ago I had a massive infestation of the green June beetles in our yard. There were a good 2-3 dozen flying around and Lily (my little Dachshund mix) was running around frantically trying to kill every last one of them :laugh:.
