Have been thinking about trying some Juan Lopez for a change of pace and haven't smoked any in a while. So I'm just curious as to which J-Lo that you would recomend?

I think the #2s are worth the wait, a few years and they are wonderful. Might not be the choice if you want to smoke them now, though.

I find flavor differences in the different vitolas. The ratio of wrapper to binder and filler in different RG vitolas would account for these flavor differences, even if it were true that they were the "same blend".

FWIW, I'm smoking an '05 JL #2 right now that is wonderful.

Kirk, this is exactly my next choice... :)

I loved the last #2 I had which was a couple years old but I need more CG's in my stock so I will probably go with both anyway! LOL

The JL2s are interesting creatures. Strong but creamy. I like the #1 purely due to size.

There is also an interview with Hamlet where he states the wrapper accounts for approx 20% of variance in flavors.

Usually I like the smaller ring guage but in the Juan Lopez case I like the #2 robusto. My 08's were awesome and had a wine/fruit flavors to them..great and unique cigar and albeit gone. I have a box of 2011s and while not as pleasurable as the 08 they still are very good...I say go with #2.
