Alright brothers im curious who uses filters. I never use those paper inserts but I have a brigham that has a maple insert that I use. I dont mind the brigham cause I can still run a pipe cleaner with it in. I just got my first sav 320 and im trying out their inserts, I dont like them so far because you cant run a pipe cleaner but I will give them a try before I throw them out. So what arr your thoughts or experiences?

Never used one. I was taught by the older guy at the shop I used to work at to remove any filters first thing. I don't think any of my pipes accept a filter, one might though, my 320.

nope. i have tried paper filters and stingers, and prefer no obstructions. they might work for some, but not i. the ONLY "filter" i use is a stinger on a kaywoodie i got that is older than i am: it's just to pretty to cut on, and smokes well with the widget intact.

near as i can tell, filters of all varieties are really there to control moisture and temp. as you can do the same thing with preparation of your tobacco and smoking technique, why bother? unless you are inhaling. in which case, for shame! o)

I tried smoking with 9 mm active carbon filters. With an English mixture, it works pretty well - it removes the bitterness while still allowing most of the flavor through. With something softer, it could dull the flavor completely.

I don't use filters. All my savenellis take them. I've been told by FOGs to make sure to use the Savinelli insert if you don't use the filters.
