I know you aren't supposed to smoke until your wisdom teeth are healed, but does anyone know how long that is? I just had mine pulled Friday and am jonesin pretty badly. Should I wait until they don't hurt at ALL, or is there a length of time where it is safe to smoke?

Ask your dentist/ surgeon for a time period you really run a risk of dry socket which is pretty terrible from personal experience, the theory is it reduces the formation of the blood clot at the site, or may pull it away, it's also known as alveolar osteitis if you want to wiki it

I would definitely ask the dentist. Don't want to risk anything.....

Also, I don't think I ever sent a friendly bomb to you that I said I would. What a better excuse now then you having the wisdom teeth out? Haha. Perfect!

Do not smoke until they say you can! I got dry socket and had my gums packed twice a week for 6 weeks after and was fucking miserable!

Exactly, the stuff they pack in there tastes awful and the pain is even worse. Take a break and pick a good cigar for when it's over, it will be the best cigar you've ever had!

what kind of extraction ?
my four wisdoms were pulled/pried clean in about 3o mins flat
toked later that afternoon (at elevation fwiw)

anything hairier and genetics aside, id throw caution taking into account how well your coagulating.

i am not a dentist or oral surgeon - ymmv :)

Thanks everybody. TBH, I don't even remember posting this... I'm going back today since I have intense pain (I assume its dry sockets), so Im going to assume not until that is over. I have a very tasty looking stick I've been sitting on for a while, so It'll be worth it.

Haha I just had mine out on August 19th and smoked a San cristobal on tues a week after my extraction, that was a bad decision lol. A complication with a dry socket and a trip back to the oral surgeon was my prize for not waiting long enough to enjoy our hobby. I admittinlgly am quite impatient. I'd wait until the sockets are healed before smoking.

Like many have said, do all you can to keep your clots intact. Sipping through a straw, drawing on a cigar, etc, will dislodge the clots. That is bad news.

I occupied my healing time by ordering cigars, haha!
