The old water front shoreline was used as a landfill (like 100-200 years ago), IIRC. No clue where the world trade center is in relation to the old shoreline. Pretty cool to say the least.

A friend of mine was an engineer on a building there years ago. When they were digging to pour a foundation, they came across a ton of artifacts; pipes, utensils, bottles, and of all things a dozen cannons. The sank to ships to extend their shoreline.

Anyway, most of the guys took what they could but the cannons were too big. Once it was reported, all work stopped and archeos came in and studied the area.:hammersma

Shutdown the site for two years I think.

Pretty awesome. Guess this means we're stuck with a hole in the ground for a while longer, but at least now there's interesting things going on in it.

Fascinates me to think that some day someone'll be digging up pieces of our culture.
