Just got an email from Finck Cigar Company in San Antonio Texas, who runs a yearly event. The event raises money for charity, and they were informed this year that Wounded Warriors would not accept the donation due to them being a tobacco company.

I tweeted about it, and some other cigar shops chimed in that they too had their donations refused due to being a tobacco company.

Ladies & Gentlemen, we have supported the military for years and many servicemen and women enjoy a fine cigar. For a donation to be refused because of the ties to Tobacco is sickening.

Unbelievable. I bet you anything that not one of those wounded vets or their families cares if the money helping them came from a tobacco company. In reality all of that money came from regular guys like you and me!! I really don't understand that at all. Its very disappointing.

can we send the wounded warrior folk some pix from some of the troop bombs? i mean, bringing a moment's peace to those that serve is why we do that, and the woulnded warrior project is exactly in line with that goal.

on second thought, it still makes my head hurt, and i really don't want to get angry at a good charity.

Wow! As a military member myself, one would think that no matter who donated the money, every penny counts when it comes to something like this. Obviously they don't need anymore money and if Finck Cigar Company would like to show their thanks and gratitude to Americas Wounded Warriors I know a couple organizations off the top of my head that could really use the help. Thats both ridiculous and selfish on their part.

That's absolutely sickening to me. Part of me wants to say "F%$# them" and I'll take my support elsewhere. The other part of me things about the soldiers they help and makes me conflicted.

Welcome to our f'd up world of politics.

So what's the over/under on the US becoming a comunist country? Sure seems like it's creeping up on us fast.

It's a election year boys, expect the unexpected.

So Sad

If we were a cocaine making company, I get denying the donation. But for a group involved in a perfectly legal product? This defies logic and reason. Would they turn down a donation from Budweiser? Doubt it. But alcohol addiction is way worse than puffing on a cigar for a few hours. This is an extremely poor decision, made for all the wrong reasons.

To be honest, I would not care if all the military financing came from the Porn Industry. As long as it keeps the best technology and weapons in the hands of our soldiers for their protection and our countries.

Somehow I don't think it's weapons or technology the porn industy is keeping 'in the hands' of soldiers :hysterica

Wow it has come to this now what a sad sad time. We tried to donate to Madigan here in our area and of course they wouldn't take cigars so we did up a few dozen regular boxes with no cigars and then passed a few hundred cigars through the back channels as best we could.

I have always donated something sometimes money sometime gifts to the men/women and their families. It would be interesting to take a poll this is so ridicules it is beyond comprehension.

Well screw the admin I will just give cigars like last year my Nephew CID was doing protection at an event for them at the Pentagon and we sent him a bunch to get into the right hands so the actual wounded heroes got a damn cigar to relax with.

Just Sad!

Sickening? Really?

Who here knows what was their motivation for this decision? It is very likely a calculated financial decision made in the best interest of the program. I have no idea what/how much politically-related influence was involved. However, I suspect that a non-profit program for Wounded Warriors has a substantial backing of health industry giants. I'd guess that chances are good that there was more money opportunity from factions that are opposed to tobacco use than from those that tatoo it on their foreheads.
I don't agree with the decision on the surface, but I'd like to know much more and I wouldn't be surprised if I agreed once I heard the (likely fiscal) rationale.

Did the gvmnt have anything to do with this? Sounds like it's a private charity exercising their freedom to do business as they see fit.

Doesn't make it any better, but blame where blame is due.

Just in case anyone was curious Finck is donating the money for the event to Fisher House:

Fisher Houses provide a place for families of servicemen to stay while their injured family members are being treated in VA hospitals. You can read more about them at www.FisherHouse.org
