WTF! $600 Cell Phone Bill!

"Sara, get in here now"! I go to make a call today and my cell doesn't work, all day long. So when I get home I call the cell company and they inform me that they temporarily shut off our service because of unusual usage. In the last 30 days, our youngest daughter Sara has sent/received 4097 texts! WTF?

So we're with Alltel and have a plan that's $109 a month for all three of our phones, with 1000 minutes and 1000 texts. So I upgraded (they let me do it for free) to a $139 plan that has 2200 minutes, 10 more people in our circle (free calls), free minutes start at 7pm not 9pm and unlimited texting.

Needless to say Sara will not be using her phone for the next month. Luckily Linda held me back or I may have beat her to death. Damn kids! I mean are you serious, 4097 texts messages in 30 days! :argh:

wife was watching a Dr. Phil she had on the dvr tonight about kids texting. He had a 13 year old girl that had 14,000+ in a month and a 17 year old boy that had 125,000+ in a 3 month time period. So when you think about it, I guess you got off pretty good.

Needless to say her plan was upgraded to unlimited inTexts (inside verizon) and 5k outside verizon (the maximum plan) and she still gets close to going over......

If you talk with your provider, most will retroactively apply a new plan - I've had it happen & my brother had it happen when his girlfriend racked up a $1300 bill in one month. After going down to the store, they got a plan that changed the bill to $140.

I bet I haven't sent 10 texts in the 10+ years I've had my phone. By the time I tried to text you a message I could have calledand said it.

I though my son was a text junkie but has never hit 1000 in a month.

That is a ton of texting, I have a BlackBerry for work and I do not text/email/call thatmuch in a month. I guess I know what to look forward to one day.

i have heard this so many times from parents who are just killed with a cell bill. last year there were kids in our area that held contests with themselves to see how big their bills could be. (physical size) their bills were itemized so they went from envelope size to large padded envelope size. the final winner had their bill sent in a box! one of the kids told me that she had at least 150 messages waiting for her when she woke up each morning. unreal.
