Cosmoline removal ideas??

Just purchased a 36 Tula mosin nagant and it's still got a coat of cosmoline throughout (not alot)... I've been told to remove all of it before any firing, anyone have some tips?

I think you'll be safe to use most commercial gun cleaning agents to remove that stuff. It's primarily there for long term storage and as a corrosion inhibitor. Once you get the cosmoline off, I would come back and apply a thin coating of whatever light-weight gun oil you use.

if you wait until you lady is not at home, you can put the stock in the oven at a low temp and bake the cosmo....Once the wood heats up it just weeps out.....For the metal parts, clean it just like you would anything else with any gun cleaner until it's all gone, then oil the metal.

Surprisingly the one thing I've seen work the best isn't a gun product... Palmolive will break up the cosmoline in no time and afterwards just wipe it nice and dry and oil her up
