We had a event this past weekend and Pete brought a bundle of each prototype of the new Cojonu 2012 due in March. I smoked them both and early impressions are the sumatra has all kinds of flavors going on that needs some time to balance out. The Broadleaf seemed to me a little further along in the melting of flavors and was tasting more like the profile (with that broadleaf grit/sweetness added in). Both were strong cigars but not to over the top. These were very very early/young samples so it's maybe not even fair to comment. But hey, that's what message boards are for and it's a slow monday morning.

here's a pic of the broadleaf one.

Thanks for sharing my friend, but personally I'm kinda partial to the broadleaf version myself....Just like JFire has said, "It's all about the Broadleaf Baby!"

Well I am a HUGE fan of the 03's (My #1 NC) and didn't care much for the 06's or 09's. I'm hoping these will be a real treat in the Cojonu line.
Just so I'm clear on this...You mean there are two different wrappers for this Cojonu? Sumatra and Broadleaf?

I'm looking forward to it. And I'm a big Tat whore and fan of Pete's, don't get the pitchforks and torches out, but am I the only one a little disappointed to see the box-press and Sumatra wrapper in the Cojonu series? The 2003 is one of my all time favorite smokes for literally 7-8yrs. And the Capa Especial is easily in my top 5 fav smokes this summer. But it makes me kind of sigh to see 2011 "The Year of the Sumatra" affect the Cojonu line, and I always saw them as big, rustic sticks, not a box-press.

I'm sure it'll be fantastic, and I'm looking forward to it, but seeing those two details make me kind of think, "Oh, the Cojonu now too?"

Well I'm just going to come out and say it...If anyone has a couple of these there willing to sell, PM me!
Another question I forgot to ask you was do you think it is better than the 03, comparable, or not quite as good?

I was fortunate enough to be given one of these (broadleaf not Sumatra) from Pete at the Inter-Tabak in Dortmund. I must have smoked 8 or 9 cigars that day, but that cigar was the best one I smoked all day....all weekend for that matter. It had been rolled just 10 days prior. I still think about that cigar. I look forward to smoking many more of these!
