Years ago I used to buy Rocky Patel sticks. These days I just pass on them. They seem too "run of the mill" now. They haven't surprised in quite some time. So shelling out almost $20 for a Rocky seems highly unlikely.

A friend of mine has here in town has had one and said it was a good smoke but over priced.

I bought a bounch of RP's off a brother here since they were really cheap. I plan to use them as give away sticks for people that drop over so they think they are getting something special.

+3. One of the first brands that I smoked. I don't smoke them anymore. Too many better sticks out there IMO.

I was gifted one a couple weeks ago. I should've let it rest a bit but lit it up right away. Right away it hit me with pepper. Nice earthy full body smoke. Definitely not a morning smoke. I don't smoke many RP's but I'd pick one up if I had the extra cash.

+4. Stopped smoking this brand in 2007 when I noticed the blend changed when comparing them to sticks I had in the humidor for awhile... blend changed for the worse.

I've only ever smoked a handful of Rocky's as the brand just always turned me off, and the few I have had were middling to poor at best, so I have... well, zero interest in an expensive Rocky.

My question is... Fifty what?
Has he been making cigars for fifty years? are these aged for fifty minutes?

For his Fiftieth birthday.

The guys who have bought them said it was a full bodied cigar and probably the strongest RP out there. This thread will probably get more RP hate than people answering the OP's question......

you can probably bet that this cigar was blended, and rolled by his new Guy
Amilcar Castro, and they say he's really good, so if i were gifted one i'd smoke
it but i'm not gonna purposely track one down!

By "aged," you mean "tinted," right?

And to answer the original question: no. I'm saving-up my allowance for something mo'better.

Is it a good $20 cigar? No. But then again I can't really say there are many $20 cigars I feel are worth it, too much great stuff at $10-$12.
Is it a good Rocky Patel? Absolutely. One of the few that I could smoke.
Is it a Decade on steroids? No. It's got the control, smoothness and complexity that the current iteration of the Decade doesn't have.
Is it a good $20 Rocky Patel? Probably.
Is it better than what I thought going in? Miles.

If I had to smoke Rocky, this is what I would chose. The price is a bit daunting, but the two that I have smoked have been beyond smokeable, they've actually been quite enjoyable. I wouldn't buy a box, but the price problem is also complicated by the Swavorski crystals on said box.

True! not a big RP fan, but the Decade is not a bad stick for the price.

I heard today that this cigar was so good if RP priced it lower it would kill the sales of his other cigars, it's that good. I have not smoked one so I can't say but I did hear that from someone how said he has smoked several. I happen to like many of the RP cigars, so maybe I was being "sold" but at the right price at some point I will try one.

Smoking a AB Black Market right now and think it a great long smoke!

I will admit that I still like his Olde World Cigars and Decade is pretty good IMO. I generally don't smoke many of his brands but I think the price point is a bit high for these cigars for me to take a chance on. I could just about get two Tatuaje Havana Cazadores for one of these sticks...I will take the almost two sticks of the Cazadores everytime.
