So... I really think if I could open a cigar bar in downtown Asheboro it would do well. Downtown is growing fast and has a lot more class to it now and there's a cigar shop that's been here for 45 years so I know there has to people that would enjoy it as much as I would. Just don't know how big of a pain it would be to get one up and running.

I am not sure about Ashboro, but I remember talking to a fellow a few months back that said all the cigar lounges in Charlotte were closed down due to regulation changes. Cutters cigar bar was grandfathered in for some reason.

With the new laws that don't allow smoking indoors, you may have a tough time. Do some digging to see if that's an NC thing or just Charlotte and let us know

Heres the info Direct from this document

Are there any restaurants or bars that do not have to follow the law?
Yes. The following types of restaurants and bars are not required to comply with the new smoke-free law:
Cigar bars: In order to qualify for this exception and allow smoking, the cigar bar must satisfy all of the following criteria:
o
Gross revenue: The bar must generate:
60% or more of its quarterly gross revenue from the sale of alcoholic beverages: and 25% or more from the sale of cigars.

Humidor: The bar must have a humidor – which is a box or room with constant humidity designed to store cigars or pipe tobacco on the premises.

Underage: The bar must not allow individuals under age 21 to enter.

Smoke: Smoke from the bar must not migrate from the bar to an enclosed area where smoking is prohibited under the state law, such as a restaurant.

New construction: If the cigar bar begins operation after July 1, 2009, it must be located in a freestanding structure occupied solely by the bar.

Reporting: The bar must submit quarterly revenue reports to the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health.
NOTE: See Rules for specific Cigar Bar reporting: http://tobaccopreventionandcontrol.

The new law in NC is a PITA. My buddy used to own a hookah bar in Chapel Thrill and had to shut down because they made an exemption for cigars but not for hookah.

Even if I could just open a nice lounge I would be happy with too. Just not an ashtray and some chairs but a nice place some lounges I've seen are a joke I'm trying to avoid that.

There is a free standing building near me that used to be a Block Buster store that I really wish I could open a cigar bar at.

I think it's funny that you can get people drunk at them under the new laws, but can't feed them. Private clubs can do more, but I don't think you can make money at them.
