Hello Brothers,

So as I live in Michigan the weather is starting to change. I love the fall but when I want to smoke a cigar I do it outside. My wife has told me I could smoke in the house, but I do not want to smoke the place out and make it smell bad for her and others. So my question is, do you all have cheap solutions to this issue? I am not looking to go broke to remove smoke and smell from the house. I have looked at a few electronic devices but I want your opinions.

Thanks
Moose

From my experience and I think others will agree the best way to do this isn't cheap! Purifiers "clean" the air but what you need to do is vent it so installing a exhaust vent in the room you are wanting to be a smoking room would work best. I've heard of those odor eating candles but that does nothing for the smoke itself. Those air purifiers don't work well when you are smoking in my opion works great to get the dust out of the air but they have to work hard to keep up with a cigar.

Went through the same thing here in Illinois. I installed a bathroom fan in the "man cave" in the basement and vented the duct to the outside (like a dryer). I even put a timer on it so it would run after I finish smoking and then turn itself off. You should be able to do the same depending on the accessibility of your room to an exterior room.

I live in Kalamazoo so If you have a garage, here is what I did. Went to menards and bought a propain heater, two sheets of 5/8 foil/foam board. I made two sides, a back, and a roof. Big enough to fit the heater and a nice bag chair. I did that comfortably for two winters before I built my man cave. I also made it so the inclosure would fold up when I was finished. I just would open the garage up and air out.
Kept the smoke outside, Myself warm, and the wife happy.
As much as I love cigars, even I hate the sent of stale smoke. I have a vent fan in my man cave but it doesn't remove the smell 100%. I keep scented candels and stuff like that handy.

I cannot believe I didn't think of this. I have a nice ice shanty, maybe that will work. I also have a kind of office room that I use, I might think about a vent fan in there.

Thanks for the incite so far.

I have not found a smoker eater that works. If you smoke inside that room is going to smell of cigar smoke. Vents to a fine job moving the smoke out. I have two exhaust fans that keep the air clear but the room eventually smells of cigars. If you do use a roomin the house paint first with a heavy semi gloss oil based paint. Check and seal around the doors. Go for the most CF air movement you can find that wont sound like a jet exhaust. The best I found were fans that ran at the end of the duct at the roof versus in the room. Good luck.

An Ice shanty is perfect untill you get a better system running.
