Kinda cool but not a fan of cabinets with display shelves. The way that one is laid out might be enough gun storage but would a lot more cigar storage.

Agreed. I hate display shelves...waste of space. Lay em flat, and load em up!

I disagree there.

When I custom built my first humi, I didn't put any display shelves... just flat shelving for boxes and more flat shelving with trays.

I learned VERY fast that this SUCKED with no display shelving at all.

(1) You couldn't SEE very well what all you had in there at the back of shelves.

(2) The top shelves were almost impossible to tell what all you loaded in.

(3) You lost more humidity by opening it and pulling out shelves to see what you had... rather than looking through glass to decide what you want to go straight for.

So...

I changed it!

I had those shelves removed and installed new ones with a slight angle. True that you don't have to go SO nuts with the angle that you lose a crap ton of space...... but, from experience, I will tell custom builders that slanted "display" shelves are a MUST for a good working humi!

This one might be a little extreme on the slant, but display shelves are a MUST in my humble opinion!
I still don't like display shelves. My cabinets are only 6' tall so can see to the top easily enough. Accumonitor system has a feast enough recovery time that loss of humidity not a big concern, also store almost xeclusively in boxes anyways so a little more protection there from humidity swings. I also find that display shelf cabinets may be good for up to 50 boxes but once you are past 2 or 3 hundred display shelves would mean going to B&M size walk in to accomodate. I do like a couple of drawers for singles but more then that would be more space then I want to give to storage.

I don't have the rifles to fill that...though if I had the empty room I guess I'd have to fill it now wouldn't I . But that's a damn fine humidor. Would be a great addition to any man cave or study.

Have to still agree with Aaron on display shelves. I have a 6 foot or so tall cabinet, which I can see everything in there. Even if I dig behind things at the front, having the cabinet open for a bit, the humidifier inside does a solid job of bring the humidity back up quickly once closed.

Display shelves, in my opinion, waste a lot of space. They also prevent stacking of anything to a great extent, as it would cause things to slide forward.

To each his own.

That's EXACTLY what I did!!! The bottom 3 shelves are flat and I store boxes... the top two are shelves with trays at a slight slant to allow me to see all my choices! When they were all flat, I just couldn't see the back of the shelves or the top one (granted, my humi is 4 feet wide, almost 3 feet deep, and almost 7 feet tall). When I took time to dig around back or bring shelves down, my humidity levels also started to drop a lot faster than I like (I also have an Avallo electronic from Ron - but an open door is an open door if you have to keep it that way for a few minutes digging).

I hear what Aaron is saying... but, for me, my customs (and one more is in the works) will always have the top shelves at a slight slant for my singles. I can get in and out quickly already knowing what I want because I can see all my choices!
Externally accessable drawers is the answer to this one for me. But can see the preferance for slanted shelves. Other issue for me is I don't like glass doors much. Easier to tell my wife they aren't that full when she can't just see in.

A few display shelves would be great ... in a walk-in! Some day, some day. Although AZ's giant 4'x7'x3' cabinet might work too, lol.

My point was...Guns and Tobacoo! not shelf space...more right of passage as a man-thing. Regardless of shelves...It's pretty f-ing awsome!

VERY F-ing awesome! Next step: gun, tobacco, AND liquor cabinet. Though guns and alcohol are probably not the smartest mix.
