I have an active Rh and temp controlled cabinet humidor. I have removed the cello from several boxes. It appears to me that in a short time the cigars have became mello to the point of near tasteless and the body seems to have been effected. Is it just in my head, or shoud long term storage in boxes be stored with the cello on? Feel free to PM me.

Thanks for getting on it so fast. I have read the article and there didn't seem to be any mention of flavor or body loss after an extended period. What has been your experience?

When aging cigars I (personally) remove the cello. now that said I see arguments on the other side of why not to as valid, but I do not want to chance of slowing the process of aging my sticks.

Specifically per your question, every cigar will age differently. I have found that many smoke well after a couple of months only to get flat over a longer period of time. I have also seen the reverse, where a couple of years can make a meh cigar into a wow cigar. Every cigar will have its "peak"

My advice experiment with the boxes you are aging and try one every so often. But what do I know.

I think we should just let this thread go.

I think the cello should stay on for some cigars, and take it off for others. Mostly because of certain cigar's promiscuous activities. I wouldn't want a tobacco contact transmitted disease to infect the rest of my other cigars. Think of it like a jimmy hat for your smokes. Why would you let cigars ride bare back in your humidor if you wouldn't ride bare back with a whore you picked up on the street?

If I had a few drinks, closed one eye, and she looked decent I might go bareback...

Plus you have to figure the more threads there are with the same question the less likely they are to be posted again. So if we flood the board with cello threads a new guy won't post it up again because the only allowed cello thread gets buried.....

It's like the inhibiting enzymes with the very same enzyme. The more it is the less it happens!

The search function is such a puzzling tool, after all.

If you are inclined to remove cello another fun thing to do with the wrappers is to lay them all on the floor. Then you strip down slather vaseline all over your body and roll through the cello wrappers. Then you count how many cellos stuck to your glistening skin.

i havent read any of the articles, but i can tell you that if the box your cigars are in is a cedar one, then i would suggest you take the cellos off. Feel free to add tobacco particles & cedar chips in there as well so your cigars can absorb the aromas.

However, if the cigars are in a cardboard box, well then that is what your cigar is absorbing without the cellos on.

Buy some used cedar boxes at your local b&m (might even be free) and transfer your favorites that come in cardboard boxes into those...you should see a difference.

I never light the cello, but if the cigar comes in a cedar sleeve, I will keep that on when burning a good cigar, although it gets difficult if there is a bit of tape on the cedar sleeve... that can cause an unpleasant taste to come out, so I'd be careful about that.
