I'm sitting on the deck my wife and daughter passed out I'm smoking and half lit off whiskey and a C-130 just flew over the house and I was like damn I miss that shit sometimes. I wouldn't trade my wife or baby girl for anything but damn if I don't miss being a grunt sometimes. Any of you ex service guys get this way sometimes?

We're stationed in middle-of-nowhere northern Japan right now ... so no, lol. I don't miss being over here when our families are 12k miles away. But I can see us missing these days when we're a few years down the road--memories are usually selective, people either remember only the good or only the bad, and my wife and I are both more "remember the good times" people.

But on the positive side, our base stressed out North Korea so bad that we killed the bastard, so that's fun :)

I'm still in as well, so I can't really miss it yet. But I'm inching ever closer to the time where I'll have to start a new chapter...and I can't say I'm COMPLETELY looking forward to it.

Yup, all the time. Some days more than others, but always there.

Yeah that seems to be the way I am. After drinking and walking down memory lane didn't help tonight lol. There certainly enough bad memories out there but I tend to block those out and focus on the good ones.

I've been out for a looong time. Still dream about being in the service so I must admit I do miss it alot at times. I think it's the camradery more than anything...That's what I like about this place the most.

THANK YOU for that one!

and (caveat, i have not served), i see it as only natural you would miss it. people miss high school, college, old neighborhoods, so how much more so a setting which is built to foster mutual dependence, camaraderie, and trust? service is a major chunk of life, and will stay with you always.

just an outsider's perspective. sorry for butting in, and thank you all who have served for your country, keeping my sorry ass safe!

if you miss it, show some love through who you are now: troop bomb! and let me know if you get in on one, jordan, i'm down with filling a care package.

I guess you can say that I do miss it sometimes but not really. I keep in touch with many of my friends that I made while I was in so that gives me my fix. I will say that I miss blowing shit up and playing with cool guns!

Six hours in a C-130 jump seat? No thanks. . .:stretchgr I spent too much time going TDY on those things during the Vietnam War. . .But, to be fair, I have fond memories of them as well since I spent a lot of time with AC-130s and they were a lot of fun. . . A lot of years have passed and I still think of the men though. . .
