Sometimes I'll just let it burn out on its own and then when I go to relight it I'll clip it so theres no ash left and it seems to work for me. Or if your in a hurry just clip it and relight when ready.

Never had any luck relighting and tasting good. Did hear about some stuff u put on the end that is supposed to preserve it, not sure if it works or what it's called though. Good luck maybe someone will chime in with some good tips. I'll be checking back, wouldn't mind knowing myself.

Before you let it burn out on its own, purge it. Blow back through the cigar, and when smoke mostly stops coming out the lit end, you're done. Set it on your ashtray and come back to it when you're ready. It won't be quite the same smoke when you get back, but it'll be close.

This. Also, purge before relighting, just in case there is any smoke sitting in the cigar still. Especially good to do if the cigar hasn't been out too long.

Purge for sure but I won't revisit if it's been long than an hour or possible two(depending on how desperate I am), this could really F your palet up and "burn your tongue" imho.

Rule #1 Avoid leaving and then relighting your cigar at all costs
Rule #2 If you must leave your cigar, see Rule #1

Seriously, it will NOT be the same cigar. Definitely purge first (as stated a few times above), then cut the ash off with your cutter, and hope for the best when you return.

I try to always finish it in one sitting. I agree it won't be the same cigar. I have heard of some people using Pectin to seal the clipped end with marginal success but I still wouldn't recommend it.

Dunno why everyone says cut off the ash. I would bet that you would shred the cigar, since it has been heated up from smoking. Just knock off the ash, and relight. That's what I do, if I have to, and don't have issues.

I like rules 1 and 2. If more then 10 or 15 min I don't relight just grab a fresh one. I try to make sure I plan the right size for the right time.

Jere, the reason is that the ash tends to stink up the rest of the cigar. Same reason why you purge. Even if the ash is cold, the residual smell of stale smoke (which we all know is terrible, even from the best, most aromatic cigars) will permeate the rest of the cigar as it sits there.

I agree with purging and knocking the ash off. I usually stick to an under 3 hour rule but yeah best not to relight at all. Too much smoke with too little time is the reason I dont smoke churchills as much any more haha.

I do the same, the wrapper is so brittle at this point from so much heat that it just is beggin to explode.

Never relight. Always a bad idea IMHO.
I totally agree. Cigars should be allowed to die an honorable death.

The only time I can foresee putting one down long enough to necessitate a relight is if an urgent situation arose, in which case I certainly wouldn't be thinking about cutting, purging, etc.

Ditto...It may not taste the same but it'll be close enough....just don't put it back in the humi.

Good advice.

Best thing I ever did to avoid wasting a good smoke was buy shorter cigars!
WISDOM! I smoke robustos when I know I only have 1hr to enjoy it while still taking my time. Just now finishing a LP9 rob but have time for another smoke. Instead of wasting a corona doble or another rob I'm firing up a petite corona. It's a Dirty Rat so nothing will go to waste for sure!
