Drank some of that new Jack Daniels Whiskey with the honey added. I think it's my new favorite!

Springbank Rum Wood tonight... solid nose for the finish but the palate is a tad unrefined compared to the other rum finish offerings, such as Balvenie 14 and 17 and Glenfiddich 21. Still a good dram though.

First I finished a bottle of glenmorangie 10, then I finished a bottle of Macallan 12, now I'm working on Balvenie 17.

A good night with a lot of nearly empty scotch bottles for sure!

which one? what did you think?

moved on to Balvenie Vintage Cask 1976 with a PL Encantos.

First neat, no alterations.

Then, just a tiny bit of water. Definitely opens up the floral and sweeter notes. Love how the age of these things... even with 32 years... doesn't turn them into oak bombs!

Will add a tiny bit more water and try to dilute it down to bottle strength for the last few sips.

Tomorrow night....it's the Stouts, and then New Years Eve, the Belgians.

This pic is only my contribution......my buddy is bringing down a few bottles to contribute to each night as well.

I've got a feeling tomorrows Stout session could get f'ugly.....there's some ABV behemouths in that bunch! :bottle:

Well....besides the fact that it did indeed get ugly Larry (don't recommend that many stouts in one sitting to anyone btw!)....it was still quite the experience. What I was able to conclude essentially, is that Deschute Abyss and Founders KBS are both in a class unto themselves.

The others we tried that weren't in the pic were Firestone XV 15th Anni, and a small batch brew out of Seattle called Fremont Barrel Aged Abominable. The Firestone was easily the biggest let down of the night, but in fairness, it was up against some of the best Stouts being made anywhere. Still, when you factor in the cost per bottle of the KBS (not sure what retail is exactly, $20/4 pack?) and Abyss ($12.50/bottle)...what they're asking for the Firestone ($20/bottle) just ain't right IMO. Perhaps I'd try it again without the others so I can confirm that opinion, but it won't be any time soon (the same goes for all Stouts for that matter...lol).

enjoying a dram of Balvenie Tun 1401 batch 3. Sweet, malty oakiness. So far only had it neat, looking forward to adding a bit of water. Will report back.

Definitely has elements of age, which is consistent with the barrels used.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask seems to be better now than ever before. More caramel on the nose and a LOT smoother aftertaste. Just opened this bottle and not expecting it to make it thru the weekend
