Yeah, I wasn't sold on the UC either. However, I will give it another go when the CG size comes out.
The UC is very good if you gave it a long enough nap (30 days), they came in only about 6-8 weeks ago and many were too wet. A little dry boxing fixed them up and the Undercrown (GT) made my top five of the year.

Note these are all NEW CIGARS IN 2011. I honestly think there needs to be different lists. One for NEW regular-production cigars, one for NEW LE's, and one for not-new stuff that is awesome.

For example, some of these cigars deserve to be on the "best new stuff" list, but do they beat out a Padron 40th or an LFD DL Chisel or a RASS? No.

^ THIS hahaha

Everyone is kinda crazy for these cigars in my country lately:
San Lotano Oval
Quesada Seleccion Espana
Drew Estate Undercrown
Four Kicks by Crowned Heads
Casa Magna Dominus Magnus

And i haven't taste anything...are they THAT good?
The only one I've smoked on that list is the Domus Magnus, which I think is a great cigar, yes. I have some Undercrown on the way, but I haven't been able to find any Quesada Espana coronas or Four Kicks (I don't have a shop near me, so it's internet-only).

The San Lotano Oval is on my radar, though, and I plan to try to get some soon. I love AJ Fernandez's stuff.

I hope the Four Kicks see's wider distribution soon, the cg I had was very enjoyable. I would be surprised to see any EPC fan not loving it.

Whew... I'm glad that I stated that it was in no way scientific... :)

Some great points from everyone. This was only to present a general consensus, and I neither a scientist nor a statistician, so I went with what made sense to me.

You gotta take a list like this with a grain of salt. Obviously not every site reviewed the same cigars (or most likely that is the case). So that affects the score. Perhaps average the score against the number of sites that reviewed it (but note how many sites reviewed it too).
Just to follow up on my previous post. The list is quite different if you average their scores across the number of sites that reviewed them. Obviously, hard to really judge since a number of cigars had only two reviews.

42 / La Casita Criolla / 3 14
27 / E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2010 No.4 / 2 13.5
71.5 / San Lotano Oval / 6 11.92
23 / Fausto / 2 11.5
43.5 / Four Kicks by Crowned Heads / 4 10.86
21.5 / New Havana Cigars – Capa Especial / 2 10.75
53 / Drew Estate Undercrown / 5 10.6
63 / Quesada Seleccion Espana / 6 10.5
42 / Casa Magna Dominus Magnus / 4 10.5
21 / Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition 2011 / 2 10.5
29.5 / Emilio Cigars Grimalkin / 3 9.83
19 / Casa Miranda / 2 9.5
19 / Padron SI 15 Maduro / 2 9.5
27.5 / Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero / 3 9.17
27 / My Father El Hijo / 3 9
18 / My Father Le Bijou 1922 Corona Gorda / 2 9
17 / Emilio AF 1 / 2 8.5
41.5 / E.P. Carillo – New Wave Connecticut / 5 8.3
29.5 / Cro-Magnon / 4 7.38

Total scores at the front, as originally listed, with the average at the end.
That is indeed an interesting way of doing it.

My only thought was that in making my Top 15 list, if I chose not to include that cigar on my list, should that not count for a zero value? Of course then we can get into the question whether the cigar was not included because it was not smoked, or was it not included because it was deemed to be not good enough to make it into the Top 15 List.

And as you pointed out, using an average when the cigar was mentioned only twice is kind of tough. Next year I may try to wait and include more in my calculations.

Agreed. The big issue overall is applying a 15 to 1 number to rank their top cigars. If they actually rated the cigars....they wouldn't necessarily have a 1 point difference between them, not to mention differences from site to site. Doesn't really give a strong view of a possible Top Cigars List across multiple sites.
True indeed. That is why I did not go by the actually numerical ratings that the people gave the cigar in their review. Several people (myself included) don't use a number-based system at all so it would be too tough figure out.

The numbers I used were the rankings (Cigar 1 on the list = 1st place, 2 = 2nd place, etc) I did that so that the numbers I used in calculations were indeed one number apart - I thought that would be better.

Thanks for all the feeback - I'm glad it got us talking about it, and I'm also glad there were no Warlocks... :nodlaugh:

I was going to grab some Quesadas Espanas from a website when I got home, and they sold out of the coronas this afternoon. That makes me sad. Anybody know where I could find some?

Exactly. The list should be renamed "New cigars that the Cool Kids are smoking".

out there
Have only had a couple of those, but to me the undercrown wasn't very good.
I agree. I personally don't understand all the love it gets. I found it to be rather generic with muddled. I have gotten the impression that it gets extra credit because everyone loves the Ligas so much (which I do think are excellent).

question is, are they that good to you? seriously, all of this is subjective. take the recommendations, or not, but make up your own mind. I would say, yes, the smokes on your list are worth checking out. but, no, it should never force your hand, to compete with anyone's arbitrary "latest and greatest hit list".
Why you gotta go and be a spoilsport? :roundtheh
