Imagine what would happen if a man in a bar told a group of Navy SEALs that he:

•Disagrees with the war.
•Believes they (the military) are murderers, killing innocent people… men, women and children
•Thought they probably deserve to lose a few of their own.
You are probably wondering if the guy making the offensive comments is still alive.

He is alive, and he also happens to be Jesse Ventura, a SEAL alum/reservist and the former governor of Minnesota.

Making matters worse, Ventura’s comments were directed at Chris Kyle, the Navy SEAL known as “the military’s deadliest sniper.”

This little known incident was brought out during an interview on SiriusXM’s Opie and Anthony radio show on Wednesday. Speaking exclusively to The Blaze, Gregg “Opie” Hughes explained that he had a tip to ask Kyle about his run-in with Jesse Ventura. So Opie casually brought it up and the story unfolded.

It was in 2006 when Ventura and the SEALs happened to be in the same bar, for very different reasons. The SEALs were holding a wake to honor a lost member of their team. Jesse was in town to speak to some new graduates of the SEAL program. During his military career from 1969-75, Ventura was a member of the Navy’s elite Underwater Demolition Team or UDT (the UDT was the precursor to the SEALs) and Jesse is a SEAL reservist. You might expect that sharing the history of membership in an elite military unit would garner a lifetime of mutual respect. Not so with Ventura.

As stated above, the SEALs were in the bar to mourn the loss of team member. They had gathered with the family of Medal of Honor recipient Mike Mansoor when Ventura made it known to many that he did not agree with the war. Kyle claims that he approached the former governor, and asked him to keep it down, informing Jesse that the family of the deceased was also with them.

That’s when Ventura unleashed more of his insensitive comments and Kyle reportedly countered with a one-punch knockdown.

Earlier this week, The Blaze featured a story about Chris Kyle and his autobiography that explains his amazing prowess with a rifle. We know now that Chris is also accurate with his fists and at close range.

Following the interview, “Opie” says that Chris Kyle told him that very few people knew about the Jesse Ventura incident and that his source must be “very inside.”

Wow kinda lose a bit of respect for Jesse....but he has his constitutional right to make such comments...

We dont get to enforce the constitution when it's beneficial....It's an all the time thing.

I agree with a lot of what Jesse has to say, but what he did was in the wrong venue and in poor taste.

OK, sorry if this comes across "dickish", but people really need to get a grasp of what the "right to free speech" means. It has absolutely nothing to do with the above story. His "constitutional right" protects him from the government, not another individual and there is no cause or reason to invoke or "enforce" that particular constitutional right in this case.

Further, that right is curtailed in any number of ways, many of which have to do with military personnel.

Well put, Jason. I am reminded of the Dixie Twits learning a very harsh lesson about this. . .

If one were to read the Federalist Papers they would be reminded that the term as rendered in the Constitution was to protect the printed word only and had nothing to do with flag burning, verbal assaults, etc., all constructs of an activist judiciary.

I'm originally from MN so paid close attention when he was voted in to be Governor and respected the principles he ran on... but I think he's a little too "out there" now days and I definitely lose more respect hearing that story, if in fact that's how it went. Chris Kyle definitely does not seem like a liar so I'm not doubting the story, that's just too bad Ventura and others cannot respect other people enough to just shut up.

My son threw his right of free speech in my face this week and now his 16 year old smart ass gets to see what his freedom of speech will cost him. There are consequences to certain freedoms. You make a threat against the president or some political member and see where your freedom of speech lands you. Even if you have no means of carrying out your threat. Does Jesse have the right to his own opinion? Why yes he does. But when someone requests that he respects the other people present and the guy can't give that common courtesy especially to someone from an elite military group that he is also involved with screw him. I say he got what he deserved.

Thanks for pointing the book out. I love to read and will be checking it out.

This a perfect example of why I prefer not talk politics or religion in public with those I don't know. You never know if you will run into someone who might disagree with your opinions and potentially escalate it from a discussion to violence.

Yet another example of a politician or celebrity who has forgot where he came from and has discounted the sacrifice that freedom has. Not to mention that it was just plain rude.

Imagine a Mayor who is at a bar with Firefighters or Policemen who were mourning a loss and said something similar. Any human being of a civilized society should know when it is appropriate to express their political opinion, and when it is time to simply be quiet and respectful to the feelings of others.

jess has been a little creepy the last few years. went off the grid and moved to mexico. did his "conspiracy theory" tv show. and most of the interviews you see with him kind of make you go hmmmmmmm! opinions notwithstanding, there is a time and place, and if he had any normal brain cells left in his head he would have known he was not in a proper place to express them. he's probably lucky more seals didnt' hear him and get his ass totally kicked.

The only thing Jesse cares about is getting himself publicity so he can stand on his soapbox. He's an arrogant, self-centered ass who is only interested in getting "over". Ask anyone who worked with him in the wrestling industry and they'll tell you just how full of himself he is.

Jesse has always been crazy. What he said was tasteless and where/when he said it was awful. He deserved what he got.

Cause he's a douche that believes our government used thermite grenades and timed demolition charges to kill everyone in the towers just so we could invade Iraq. What a fucking retard.

Never give up your willingness to express your right to free speech. just saying...we all have a voice.
