I'm seriously debating on getting an Edgestar 28...but can't help to wonder about what to do if it just fails? I live in Central Georgia. Weather is so mixed up here. Can get up in the late 90s, or low 100s in the summer, and winter.. ha, that's a joke.

Anyways, if the cooling unit stops, how much is a new one, or would I just have to buy a brand new Edgestar?

Also, how many of you have/do own an Edgestar and had something mess up? How/what did you do to fix it? I know they won't last forever..

I do not own a wineador, but, I would think it is similar to any fridge. Keep the coils, grates, and fan clean and free of dust/hair. Maintain a relatively constant temp inside, put in a location that does not go to exteem temps (ie below 20 and above 100). You should have a unit that will run for 15+ years.

Most of the units used on here are thermoelectric, so no "coils, grates" involved. I think if you get 5-7 years out of a unit you are doing pretty good. It is a fairly small cost(price of a box of good cigars) to replace the entire fridge if really needed. I bought my fridge because of the piece of mind it gave me not having to worry about temp swings in a standard desktop. If you have enough cigars to fill a wine fridge you shouldn't be too concerned about replacement costs of a winedor honestly.

That said, there are many here who have fixed burned out peltier units, and relatively cheap too! I would do a search and pull up some threads, but too lazy tonight. I know twenty5 has a thread somewhere on here about that.

Yeah, I finally came across those threads earlier. Hopefully, if I do ever have a problem, it would be that at the most. Doesn't seem TOO much of a headache..:sarcastic

It is a bit of an expense to get custom trays/drawers and then beads/hcm for humidification. Once you have all that if you do need to replace the entire fridge, it won't be too much to replace the unit itself if need be. But my thought is if you have it full it will hold 400-500 sticks and if you have to spend 150 bucks every 5 years that is more than worth it IMO.

I keep mine on a UPS that protects it from power surges, blackouts and brownouts. Yes, I'm a geek :computer:
It also delivers a clean regulated voltage to the wineador with the added bonus that it'll keep running for up to an hour and a half if the power goes out :stretchgr

With all that, I hope it extends the life of the unit, but as Craig said, $200 every 5 years ain't much.
