Sportscenter was originally started as a highlight show and at the top of its game was the best 30 min of sports on TV. It has morphed over time and shifted more to analysis than highlights. (Understandable considering the rise of immediate availability of highlights on the internet.) Here is an interesting look at the minute by minute breakdown of Sports Center.

Interesting but ill still watch the same sportscenter 5 times in a row. Espn has admitted themselves when it come to the whole tebow thing, their network went a bit overboard. As far as "espn dosnt give a shit about the nhl", and I know there are a few hockey fans here, neither does a vast majority of people so why go on and on about it. Nba and nfl draw the largest markets so I don't see it an issue. Nfl gets so much coverage during the week because its just a 16 game season, every injury or change in roster is something that impactgs the season moreso then nba mlb or nhl with long seasons. Article made some observations but personally I still think its the best 30min of sports on tv

This is my biggest complaint about Sportscenter and why I don't watch it: Lack of coverage for the sports I care about.

I could not care less about the NBA. I wouldn't even care if it dissolved completely, that's how much I hate basketball. And I can only take so much football talk, and I don't care about any team but my home town team. And College Football can eff off.

I'll stick to watching NESN when I can (Boston's local sports network for my Sox and Bruins and Patriots news) and then keep up with NHL Tonight on NBCSN that's on nightly and has the NHL news I want to see.

If you just want highlights, that's what ESPN News is for...

No matter what industry, people will hate the "big dog" on top just because. ESPN, Starbucks, Microsoft, Apple etc... Of course there are some valid complaints, but I think a lot of people jump on the "hate" bandwagon just because they prefer smaller companies and view the big companies as corporate greedy pigs.

I agree and while this might be off topic who cares if they are greedy how many people do they all employ?

Regarding SportsCenter the actual topic. I think its great most of the year. When NBA is on they focus on that way to much and I cant stand the NBA so I usually end up flipping back and forth to skip the NBA parts

I don't care how big of a company, glad they're doing well and make money. I just don't follow most of the sports they report on and one of them I completely despise, so it just makes sense for me to look for my sports news elsewhere.

I didn't mean for those comments to be directed towards you or anyone here... just a general statement of my opinion why some people hate on the big dogs. I live in Seattle and hear it all the time about Starbucks and Microsoft which is why I even have an opinion on the subject. LOL

I personally love ESPN cuz I'm a sports nut, but I wouldn't like them that much either if my favorite sport was hockey.

edit: I get very bored of ESPN in March when all they talk about is the NBA. Hockey is still going, but no NFL, no MLB and all they "analyze" is Kobe and Labron 24/7!?!

Ah. Gotcha. I didn't necessarily think you were directing it specifically at me, but wanted to clarify. :)

I. LOVE. ESPN.

Now that that's out of the way, yeah sure, they don't cover all the sports equally. Who cares? I LOATH basketball, but I still watch the coverage on ESPN because I can at least keep up when my friends inevitably talk about it. I enjoy the occassional NHL coverage, but wouldn't mind more. I live, breath, dream NFL so I'm fine with them covering it most of the time slots during the season

My only complaint with the cycle of sports center is that, if you are on a consistent break schedule like myself, you end up watching the same segments each time you go into the break room.
