I'm about 3/4 of the way through a box of Undercrown Belicosos after trying several singles from different shops. I didn't have any problems with the singles, but in this box the wrappers have split on every cigar just after lighting. They look fine, no cracks, I light it and within 5 minutes or so it splits all the way to the band. Has anyone else had a similar problem? They still taste fine it's just messy. They are stored at 65/65 in a Vinodor and no other sticks have had problems. I've tried dryboxing, and putting them in a desktop set at 70. Doesn't change anything. Ideas?

I've has several with no problems what so ever. Tough one to deal with... I just did the same thing with some ashton's.

At first glance it's easy to say they are too dry. But let me ask you this -- how cold is it where you're smoking? If it's near freezing where you are, that means the air is cold and DRY. I often find that wrappers crack MUCH more easily in the winter, no matter how they are stored. Just one of the reasons I always have some Cigar Glue (pectin) with me when I burn one.

I own a box of UC belis and haven't had that prob either. I drybox the shit outta my smokes. What is the RH of the room you're smoking in? 85RH+ will split your wrapper like that if you store much dryer.

Was thinking the exact same thing. Had a day last week that most of the cigars I tried to smoke blew up on me. Think we had 40% humidity outside at -35. WHen you warm that air up it doesnt gain a lot of moisture. I pulled out a Hygrometer and tried to see what indoor humidity was and once it dropped past 20% it just read low. I had wet the wrappers before I could smoke them. We are a lot better now that it has warmed up a little.
Not a storage issue. The vinodor they are in has two digitals that match. No other cigar coming from that 'dor has any problems. Not even UC from other sources that are in immediate proximity to the exploding cigars. It's just this one box. The only reason I posted is I remember JD or Saka saying something about excess moisture in Nica and wrapper problems. I couldn't find the post. I will search again. Was just hoping someone else had dealt with this and had a suggestion.
As far as temp, I don't smoke in the cold.

Not lengthwise though, but around the circumference and on a vein of the wrapper. In DFW it was 72 degrees with around 30-40% humidity and stored at 67-68% in a room that was 70 degrees (is that enough numbers for ya? LOL). I'm done with maduro/dark wrappers. Nothing but trouble.
JBizzle ... keep me in the loop. Place the remaining cigars in a steady environment for another month and see how they perform.

Thanks JD but not necessary. Looks like an isolated incident since no one has had a similar problem. Wasn't a big deal since they smoked good enough for me, just me always wanting to know 'why?'. Love me some Undercrowns!
