What causes this?

So last night I light up a cigar recommended by a local shop. It was a Casa Magna Belicoso.

For some reason, this thing would just not stay lit for more then a few puffs. It got so annoying that I trashed it before it was even 1/3 done.

What causes a cigar to just refuse to stay lit?

ummm... the cigar, bevis!

oilier tobacco needs to be smoked drier, thus the reference to "dry boxing", or sitting out lightly- or un-humidified, prior to smoking. bad draws, cigars going out, being tar balled (no cracks on this!), can all be from over-humidification.

a lot of retailers will keep their stuff up higher RH, just to help out when novitiates buy a half doven and expect to keep them in a baggie for a couple weeks.

Thanks for the info. Too bad there isn't a way to know whether or not to 'dry box' a stick before lighting up.

It comes with experience. signs of a stick being too wet can be a cracked foot/wrapper. a softer/spongy feel between your fingers. I think as a general rule B&M keep there stock at a higher RH. Ive found that certain sticks can take the higher RH and others like one you had really cant.

May i reccomend going back to the shop and explaing what happened. They may have had other customers with similar complaints. It will also give you a chance to see what level of customer service they offer.

My local b&m keeps their walk in at "wipe your brow when leaving." A bit annoying, TBH, but to the OP, that's exactly what it sounds like...the stick is just too wet. :devil:

Yup. Too wet. It happened to me once. The dude at the counter thought I was a dipshit (it was the first time I had gone in) so I left. I only buy from that store when THAT clerk is not there... if he is, I go down the road to the next B&M between there and my house.

This was a small shop over in Palo Alto on Caifornia Ave.
